Why follow-ups matter

If your first plan hasn't got you feeling like yourself yet, you're not doing anything wrong. Most women need some adjustments along the way. Follow-ups are where that happens.

1

Fine-tune your treatment

We look at what's working and what isn't, then adjust the dose, type or way you take your treatment so it fits your body and your life.

2

Go deeper

Your first appointment covers a lot. A follow-up gives us time to explore things in more depth and talk about anything we didn't get to first time round.

3

Look at what's next

As your needs change, we can talk about adding testosterone, switching products, non-hormonal options or lifestyle support.

4

Keep you safe

NICE and British Menopause Society guidance recommend a review within 3 months of starting or changing HRT. Regular review means we keep an eye on side effects, bleeding patterns and your overall health.

When to book

Your clinician will recommend a timeline that suits you. As a general guide:

  1. Within 3 months of starting or changing HRTNICE and British Menopause Society guidance recommend a review at this point. It keeps your treatment safe and gives it time to settle, so we can see how you're responding.
  2. Until you're settledSome women need a few reviews before things feel right. We'll see you as often as you need.
  3. At least once a yearOnce you're stable, we'll review your treatment at least annually to make sure it's still the right fit.

Don't wait for a routine follow-up if you have unexpected bleeding, side effects that worry you, or a new health diagnosis. Call us on 0161 515 2341 and we'll advise on next steps. For anything urgent, contact your GP or NHS 111.

Book your follow-up

Both options give you up to 30 minutes with an MMH clinician, and we'll book you in with the same clinician wherever possible.

Need something else?

Not everything needs a full follow-up. Here's how to get help with the other bits.

Repeat prescriptions

If you're settled on your treatment, are up to date with reviews and have been seen within the past 12 months, you can request a repeat prescription without booking an appointment. Repeat prescriptions issued outside a consultation have a £33 prescription fee, plus the cost of your medication.

Blood tests

If your clinician has recommended a blood test, call us to arrange it. Results usually come back within 7 working days.

Quick questions

For quick queries in the weeks following your appointment, you can email your menopause specialist at info@manchestermenopausehive.co.uk and they will respond by email within 7 days if appropriate. If they feel your question can't be answered safely by email or needs a discussion, they will recommend a follow-up appointment.

Getting the most from your follow-up

A little preparation helps us focus on what matters most to you.

Helpful to have ready

  • How your symptoms have changed since your last appointment
  • Any side effects, and any changes to your bleeding pattern
  • Your current medications and doses, including anything new
  • Your most recent blood pressure reading, if you have one
  • Any new blood test results, scans or clinic letters
  • The questions you really want answered (it's easy to forget in the moment)

For video appointments, find a quiet, private spot with good signal. Please join on time: if you're more than 10 minutes late, we may need to rebook. If you're having any issues on the day, give us a call on 0161 515 2341 and we'll help get you sorted.

Your questions, answered

It's been more than 12 months since I was seen. Can I book a follow-up?

We'll ask you to book a new patient appointment instead. A lot can change in a year, and the longer appointment gives us time to take an updated history and make sure your plan is still safe and right for you. Book a new patient appointment

How long is a follow-up?

Up to 30 minutes. That's usually enough time to review how you're getting on, make any changes and renew your prescription. If things are more complex, your clinician may suggest a longer appointment.

How much does a follow-up cost?

Follow-ups are £175 by video, or from £180 in person (depending on location). Your prescription is included, if appropriate. Blood tests and the cost of the medication itself are charged separately, and only if you need them. See full pricing

Will I see the same clinician?

Wherever possible, yes. Continuity matters to us. If your usual clinician isn't available, another member of our specialist team will have your notes and full history.

My treatment isn't working. What should I do?

Book a follow-up. It's very common for the first plan not to be the final plan, and many women need a change to dose, type or delivery before their symptoms settle. We'll work through it with you.

I'd like to bring my follow-up forward. Can I do that?

Yes. If your symptoms have changed, side effects are bothering you, or you'd simply like to review things sooner, you're welcome to book an earlier follow-up online. If you already have one booked, please give us at least 48 working hours' notice to move it. Can't see a time that works? Call us on 0161 515 2341 and we'll add you to our cancellation list.

Can I talk about testosterone or other treatments at my follow-up?

Yes. Follow-ups are the right time to talk about adding testosterone, switching products or trying non-hormonal options. If a blood test is needed first, we'll arrange it as part of your plan.

How do I get a repeat prescription?

If you're settled on your treatment, are up to date with reviews and have been seen within the past 12 months, you can request a repeat without an appointment. Repeat prescriptions issued outside a consultation have a £33 prescription fee, plus the cost of your medication. If you're due a follow-up, your prescription is included in the consultation fee. Request a prescription Your prescription is sent to our partner pharmacy, which posts your medication to your home.

Can my GP take over my prescription?

Often, yes. With your consent, we'll share a copy of your clinic letter containing our treatment recommendations with your GP. You can then ask your GP surgery if they will prescribe for you. Whether they can depends on the medication and local NHS policy.

What if I need to cancel or rebook?

Please give us at least 48 working hours' notice. Late cancellations and missed appointments are charged in full. Read our cancellation policy
